Yawanawa Rapé – Chief
Rapé Chief comes straight from Nixiwaka, also known as Biraci Brasil, Chief of the Yawanawa tribe.
This is a very special snuff, made with a mixture of three types of tobacco: Moi tobacco, native to the region, extra-strong rope tobacco and the famous Sabia tobacco. In addition, Tsunu ash is also used. This is a very special snuff, made with great care and prayer.
It was Biraci who started the walk back to the roots of his people after losing almost everything at the hands of rubber tappers and evangelical pastors. He was the first in a long time to go on an initiation diet, which reconnected him with his ancestors.
Yawanawa Rapé
One of the forgotten medicines he brought back was Rumã, also known as rapé. He is, indeed, one of the people responsible for you being able to consecrate this indigenous medicine today.
When he assumed the leadership of his people from the then leader he moved his people from where they originally lived and where they also were enslaved and founded the village Nova Esperança, New Hope. Now he moved back to their original home way up on the Gregorio River, Aldeia Sagrada or Sacred Village. It is the last habited place in the Yawanawa Indigenous lands.
In the early 1990s, the indigenous resistance movement emerged in Brazil. It was led by young people from the tribes with a vison, youngster who began to use their voices to call for attention to the cause of indigenous peoples. Biraci was one of those people. Today, he fully dedicates his time to the spirituality of his people.
