Anders als das Nikotin, das beispielsweise in normalen Zigaretten verwendet wird, wird Awiry weder fermentiert noch erhitzt, sondern natürlich getrocknet, bevor er gemahlen und durch ein Sieb gestrichen wird, so dass seine leuchtend grüne Farbe auch als feines Pulver erhalten bleibt.
