Kuripe – Ararunart
This beautiful and delicately finished kuripe was made by our favorite female artisan. She used bamboo decorated with pyrography and leather for the finishing. Handmade with a lot a care and eye for detail!
In the indigenous Tupi language Arara means macaw and Una means black. Therefore Araruna is a black macaw.
The Hyacinth Macaw stands out not only for its beauty, but for being the largest parrot in the world – it can measure up to a meter in length and weigh 1.5 kg! Its dark blue feathers make it look black from a distance.
Araruna is also the indigenous given name for the maker of this kuripe. She is from the northeastern state Maranhão. Her studio is called Ararunart.
There may be slight varieties from batch to batch since this is a hand crafted product.
